Easy DIY Donut Clutch

Easy DIY Donut Clutch Purse

June 5 is National Donut Day, and if that’s not reason enough to celebrate with some sugary, frosted goodness, we don’t know what is. We teamed up with Mikyla Creates to show you how to sprinkle some extra creativity into your day with a sweet donut-themed clutch that’s perfect for National Donut Day, and any other everyday adventure. You only need a few simple craft supplies like Tulip Brush-Tip Fabric Markers, some white fabric, and a cute clutch (you probably already have) to get this fun project under way. The best part about this project is that once your new donut clutch is complete, you can take it out and treat yourself to the real deal!

What you need:

Tulip Brush-Tip Fabric Markers Rainbow 10 Pack

- Clutch bag

- White fabric

Aleene’s Quick Dry Fabric Fusion

- 2 Bowls (one for outer ring of donut shape and one for inner ring)

- Embroidery thread (desired color)

- Embroidery needle

- Scratch paper

- Pencil

- Scissors

Tulip Easy DIY Donut Clutch

For your “donut” fabric, you can use any scrap fabric you have, like a white T-shirt, an old tote, canvas fabric, etc. Make sure it’s clean and ironed smooth before starting your project.

Trace bowls on scratch paper to create donut template

Choose bowls the size of the donut template you want to create for your clutch. Trace the large bowl first onto a piece of scratch paper, then the smaller one in the center of the large one.

Cut out donut shape to create template

Cut out your donut shape from the paper and test it against your clutch to make sure it fits how you like it. Adjust the size if needed.

Practice drawing sprinkles on paper template

If you want, you can practice drawing sprinkles on your paper template before starting on your fabric!

Trace donut template onto fabric

When you’re ready, place your paper donut template onto your white fabric and lightly trace it with a pencil. Cut out.

Draw sprinkles on fabric

Choose the color palette you’d like for your sprinkles and draw onto your cut fabric. Let dry completely.

Use embroidery thread to create a simple stitch around edges

Optional: Use embroidery thread to create a simple stitched line around the edges of your donut shape. (This just adds extra color and personality to your donut design, but isn’t necessary if you don’t feel like adding it.)

Glue donut fabric onto clutch

Use Aleene’s Quick Dry Fabric Fusion to glue your donut fabric in place on the top of the clutch. Let dry completely before using.
