Custom Couch Cover Upcycle with Fabric Dye
Say goodbye to boring couch covers! Learn how to create a custom couch cover that matches your style with this easy tutorial from Lauren Quigley Creations. This project is a great way to upcycle furniture or give new life to your thrift store finds. Tulip Fabric Dyes work best on 100% cotton, linen, ramie and rayon; wool, silk and polyester/cotton mixes will dye to lighter shades, so you can easily add a fun pop of color to your home décor!
What you need:
White couch cover
Salt
Gloves
Sink or large container
Step 1 Gather supplies and prepare dye
Before you get started on this custom couch cover, prewash the fabric that you’ll be dyeing. You can use a brand-new couch cover or upcycle and refresh a gently used one! Fill your sink or large container with hot water and ¼ cup salt per gallon, then add one packet of Tulip Fabric Dye per gallon. For this project, Lauren Quigley used 1 packet of Bright Pink and one packet of Tulip for a vibrant custom color!
Step 2 Submerge fabric into dye
Submerge the couch cover into the dye mixture and stir constantly for 15 minutes. Let the dye set for an additional 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 3 Rinse, wash, dry and cover couch
Rinse, wash in cool water with a little laundry detergent, dry, and set up your new custom couch cover! This project is a fun and easy way to upcycle furniture with a fresh new look. We love how colorful and cozy Lauren’s setup is— try making your own matching throw pillows to complete the look!
