White or light-colored sundress

Spray bottle or paintbrush

Water

Prewash, fold, and bind the dress; then, prepare the dye solutions

Step 1 Prewash, fold, and bind the dress; then, prepare the dye solutions

Start by prewashing your sundress and leaving it damp. Lay the dress flat on a covered work surface, accordion pleat it vertically, and secure it with rubber bands, evenly spacing them to create five sections. Prepare your tie-dye solutions according to the package instructions, using all five colors from the Retro Brights Kit.

Apply the dye and blend colors for an ombré effect

Step 2 Apply the dye and blend colors for an ombré effect

Saturate each section of fabric with a different color of dye. Use a spray bottle filled with water to diffuse and blend the colors where they meet. Alternatively, after applying dye to each section, remove the rubber bands, lay the dress flat, and use a paintbrush and water to blend the colors in each section.

Allow the dye to set and wash it

Step 3 Allow the dye to set and wash it

Place your ombré tie-dye dress in a sealed bag or cover it with plastic to keep it damp while the dye sets for 6 to 8 hours, or overnight for more intense colors. Once the dye has set, remove the rubber bands and launder the dress according to package instructions. Your vibrant summer fashion staple is now ready to wear!

Wear your dress!

Step 4 Wear your dress!
