Pastel Watercolor DIY Tassel Pillows
We all know that throw pillows can be EXPENSIVE. We also know they're so fab and they totally cozy up our sitting areas. What if we told you that you can DIY a fantastic set of pillows for spring without blowing your budget? Because you can. Check out this tutorial from Mikyla Creates for making your own pastel watercolor tassel pillows using Tulip Watercolor Fabric Markers and trims you can purchase for cheap online or at a craft store.
What you need:
- Tulip Watercolor Fabric Markers
- Aleene's Quick Dry Fabric Fusion
- Linen pillow covers
- 70% Rubbing alcohol
- Various trims like tassels, pompoms and others
- Wax paper
- Pillow forms or stuffing
Before you get started on your project, iron the pillow covers smooth and place wax paper inside to prevent the marker ink from soaking through to the backsides.
Choose your color scheme, then make lines horizontally across the pillow cover(s) using different marker colors.
Spray the pillow cover with rubbing alcohol and let dry.
Add more color – this time making much thicker lines randomly on your pillow cover, spray more rubbing alcohol (lightly) immediately after you draw a line, while the ink is still wet. The rubbing alcohol is what makes the color spread, so the more you spray, the more it’ll spread. It will also spread more if the ink is still wet. Keep adding color until you’re happy with it! Let dry, then wash.
Decide the placement of your various trims on your pillow covers and cut to fit.
Glue trims in place with Quick Dry Fabric Fusion and let dry completely.
Once your pillow covers are ready, stuff with existing forms or with stuffing and add to your favorite sitting area. Such a cute way to brighten up your space with a cozy spring feel!
