Supplies Needed:
Tulip 3D Dot Paint Rainbow 5-Pack
Aleene’s Fabric Fusion Dual-Ended Pen
Tulip Puff Paint Essentials 10-Pack (optional)
Assorted pom poms
Kids’ T-shirt
Wax paper
Ruler
Small bow
Paintbrush
Chalk
Cardstock, cut into a circle
Step 1: Prepare your project
Before you start on this DIY 100 days of school shirt, prewash and dry your shirt without fabric softener. Lay the shirt flat on a protected work surface, then insert wax paper between layers of fabric. This will prevent the paint and fabric glue from seeping through and adhering to the other side!
Step 2: Create chalk guidelines
Place the cardstock circle in the center of your shirt and trace with chalk. Use chalk to create a guideline for the top and bottom text. A ruler will help keep your text nice and straight! These chalk lines can easily be brushed away once your project is complete.
Step 3: Create dot art lettering with 3D Dot Paint
This 100 days of school shirt features a playful dot art design! For best results, hold the paint tube directly vertical with the tip just above the project surface, gently squeeze the paint tube until the desired size paint dot is achieved, then release pressure on the paint tube and pull straight upward without tilting. Use your desired colors of 3D Dot Paint to write “100 DAYS” along the top section of your shirt, following the chalk guidelines you created earlier.
Step 4: Write with Puff Paint (optional)
The bottom text of this 100 days of school shirt says, “FLEW BY!” For best durability, use the dot technique with your 3D Dot Paint to write out this phrase, or use Puff Paint for a classic lettering technique. Squeeze the paint tubes to write along the bottom guide of your shirt, leaving some space between the two words.
Step 5: Glue pom poms with Fabric Fusion
Now it’s time to fill the circle outline with colorful pom poms! Use the fine-tip applicator of the Fabric-Fusion Dual-Ended Pen to apply a small amount of glue to the back of each pom pom, then press to secure onto fabric. Since this is a 100th day of school themed shirt, try to incorporate 100 pom poms into your design!
Step 6: Erase chalk lines
Let your painted designs dry, then use a dry paintbrush to gently brush away any visible chalk guidelines.
Step 7: Add finishing details
Use the Puff Paint to paint a few lines down from your pom poms— this makes it look like a bouquet of colorful balloons! Apply Fabric Fusion to the back of a small bow with the sponge-tip side, then press the bow into the strings to “hold” the balloons together.
Step 8: Enjoy!
Allow the paint and glue to dry for 24 hours, then your DIY 100 days of school shirt is ready to wear! Thanks to Tulip and Aleene’s, this commemorative shirt can be washed after 72 hours. This colorful project is the perfect way to celebrate the 100th day of school!
