Supplies Needed:
100% cotton cloth napkins and tablecloth
Protective gloves
Protective surface cover
Plastic wrap or sealable plastic bag
Step 1: Prepare your Christmas tablecloth and napkins
Before you start dyeing your Christmas tablecloth and Christmas napkins, prewash the fabric and cover your work area with a protective surface cover. Prepare your tie-dye solutions by adding water to the dye bottles, filling to the neck. Replace the cap tightly and shake well until dye powder is fully dissolved.
Step 2: Fold and bind Christmas tablecloth and napkins
Fold and bind your Chrismtas tablecloth Christmas napkins as desired. For this Christmas table setting, we’re using a combination of tie-dye techniques! The tablecloth uses the itajime shibori folding technique with sage tie dye, while the napkins use the bullseye and crumple techniques with wine tie dye.
Step 3: Apply tie dye to Christmas tablecloth and napkins
Remember to always wear gloves when working with tie dye! Apply dye to your Christmas tablecloth and Christmas napkins and use gloved hands to work the dye into the folds. Flip your project over and apply dye to the back side to ensure total coverage.
Step 4: Wrap, let set, and rinse Christmas tablecloth and napkins
Once you’re finished applying dye, wrap the Christmas tablecloth and Christmas napkins in plastic, let set for 6-8 hours, then rinse, wash, and dry.
Step 5: Display your tie-dye Christmas table setting!
Once your Christmas napkins and Christmas tablecloth are laundered, they are ready to use. Display your custom tie-dye Christmas table setting and set the scene for a merry holiday celebration!
